Madison New Jersey Community Information

With a total land area of 4.2 square miles, Madison, New Jersey, is said to have slowly become a town of innovation from the creation of its own water and electricity to the arrival of various medium of transportation in the 19th century. Madison consists of 16,530 people in its recent population.

Continuously being a part of the innovation process, Madison residents started creating in 1998 a network for the whole town along with a high-speed internet connection. This enables all schools and public offices to obtain any information about Madison as they are required to do so. This led to the creation of a recent network called “Rosenet�. The name came for the borough’s own description of being a rose-growing community. Today, it continues to provide stable information and constant online communication among Madison residents and tourists, as well.

Located in picturesque northwestern Morris County, Madison is currently less than 45 minutes from New York City by New Jersey Midtown Direct Transit. Madison’s historic downtown, offers so much including many wonderful shops to explore and exceptional restaurants to dine at. Madison New Jersey has some of the top rated schools in New Jersey and offers residents significantly lower property taxes than comparable homes in Essex County towns. Much of Madison NJ is just 5 to 10 minutes by car to the Short Hills mall, or to East Hanover’s Rt. 10 shopping corridor.

Dodge Field - baseball/football field and two basketball courts.

Memorial Park - soccer field and a separate area for outdoor ice skating in the winter and practice area for soccer and football in the fall and for soccer and lacrosse in the spring.

The Madison Recreation programs also use many of the school facilities for its sports programs. Lighted facilities on Board of Education property include 6 lighted tennis courts at Madison High School and lights at the Green Village Road School field, which is used for soccer practice in the fall.

Giralda Farms, a planned office development, occupies 175 acres (0.7 km2) of the former Geraldine R. Dodge estate in Madison. Five of a possible seven projects have been completed. These include the corporate headquarters of the Atlantic Mutual Insurance Company, Maersk Lines, Quest Diagnostics, and Wyeth (formerly called American Home Products), and the offices of Schering-Plough. Development regulations for the former estate require that 85% of the land be maintained as open space with almost all vehicle parking underground.Facilities:

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey Main Stage season, presented in the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre on the Drew University Campus in Madison, runs June – December.  An outdoor production is presented each summer at The Greek Theatre, an open-air amphitheater located on College of Saint Elizabeth campus in Morris Township.

More than 8,800 artifacts from 21 different trades help tell the story of pre-industrial times in New Jersey and the nation.  The METC collection consists primarily of hand tools and the products that were produced by them.  Among the permanent exhibits is The Essential Trade:  Blacksmithing in America, which explores the important work of blacksmiths in American history.
